«The 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: New Challenges and New Steps in Global Governance»

On June 9-10, 2026 the FPRI expert Almat Toyekin participated in the international conference «The 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: New Challenges and New Steps in Global Governance» at the invitation of the President of the Shanghai Academy of International Studies (SAIS). The event was organized by SAIS, the Shanghai Society for the Study of International Relations and the Shanghai Society for the Study of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Representatives of analytical and research centers from China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, academic and diplomatic circles, as well as the SCO Secretariat were invited to participate in the conference. 
A.Toyekin delivered a report at the section «Practical Contribution of the SCO to Global Security Governance» on the topic: «The Growing Role of the SCO in Ensuring Regional and Global Security». 
During the event, the participants discussed topical issues of global and regional security, transformation of the international order, as well as promotion of the SCO's sustainable development and need to strengthen its role in the context of increasing geopolitical turbulence. As part of the forum, an exchange of views took place with representatives of foreign expert circles on international security issues. The prospects of FPRI's cooperation with Chinese analytical structures were also discussed.
