On September 5-6, 2023, in Ust-Kamenogorsk, senior expert of the Foreign Policy Research Institute Sergey Savelyev took part in the round table “The Role of International Cooperation in the Field of Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Association Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by the President of the Association V.Shkolnik, Akim of the East Kazakhstan region E.Kosherbaev, Deputy Minister of Energy Zh.Nurmagambetov, heads of nuclear industry enterprises of Kazakhstan, and the representatives of International Scientific and Technical Center and the SC “Rosatom”.

In his speech, S. Savelyev shared his vision of new challenges and threats to the non-proliferation regime, as well as the priorities of Kazakhstan’s upcoming chairmanship at the 2nd meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (Geneva, 2024) and at the 3rd Conference of the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (2026).

S. Savelyev also moderated the final session of the round table.
