On August 27-28, 2024, the FPRI experts S. Savelyev and G. Kaskarbayeva participated in the conference "Fostering Cooperation and Enhancing Consultation: Mechanisms among the Existing Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zones". The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan jointly with the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, was dedicated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests.
The conference was attended by UN Deputy Secretary-General I. Nakamitsu, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan A. Rakhmetullin, as well as diplomats, representatives of the UN and regional organizations, international non-governmental and academic organizations involved in nuclear disarmament issues.
During the event, measures to deepen cooperation between nuclear-weapon-free zones and strengthen global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime were discussed.
