On July 25, 2026 The Astana Times published an article covering the talks between President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, held on the sidelines of the 22nd Kazakhstan – Russia Interregional Cooperation Forum in Omsk. Commenting on current trends in bilateral cooperation, Manarbek Kabaziyev noted that Kazakhstan – Russia relations are entering a new stage of qualitative development. According to him, Kazakhstan and Russia are gradually moving beyond the traditional model of trade relations toward deeper industrial and technological cooperation, with the emphasis shifting from expanding bilateral trade to building long-term, high-value-added production chains.
The expert emphasized that this transformation reflects the evolution of the economic partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia and demonstrates a transition toward more sustainable forms of cooperation based on the implementation of joint industrial projects, technological collaboration, and the development of integrated production networks.
