MANARBEK KABAZIYEV: SCO IS MOVING TO A NEW STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT

On September 1, 2026 MIA «Kazinform» published two analytical materials, «SCO: Strategy of a Common Future» and «SCO – 25 Years: What Tasks Lie Ahead for the Organization», dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the anniversary summit in Bishkek.
The publications feature an expert assessment by Deputy Chairman of the FPRI Board Manarbek Kabaziyev. According to him, over a quarter of a century, the SCO has traveled the path from a regional mechanism for confidence-building and security to one of significant elements of emerging multipolar architecture of international relations. The Organization's distinctiveness lies in combining political dialogue and practical cooperation between states with various political and economic models based on the principles of the «Shanghai spirit».
The expert noted that next stage of the SCO's development should be associated with the transition from institutional formation to increasing practical efficiency, including development of transport and digital connectivity in Eurasia, digitalization of logistics, application of artificial intelligence, and expansion of interaction within international transport corridors.
The symbolic significance of the anniversary summit is underscored by its holding concurrently with the 6th World Nomad Games. As M.Kabaziyev emphasized, this reflects Eurasia's special role as a space for interaction between states, peoples, and cultures: «Eurasia looks simultaneously into its past and into its future».
